Rest In Peace Richard

Colleagues it’s with deep sorrow that I inform you of the passing on of our former workmate Richard Kinyera on Friday night. Richard worked with TPO Uganda for over 8 years starting off as our CP Advisor based at the AMISOM base in Mogadishu, he worked closely with the peacekeeping forces on civil-military relations particularly developing and orienting the unit commands on a child protection code of conduct and monitoring and reporting incidents involving children in contact with armed forces. Richard also organized pre and post deployment trainings on psychosocial support and child protection for battalions from Burundi but mostly the UPDF.
After close to 4yrs in Somalia, we relocated Richard to DR Congo to head our program there that was demobilizing children associated with fighting groups in South Kivu and reintegrating them back into caring families. As part of his work in DRC, Richard also supported 5 local NGOs to acquire capacity in CP and MHPSS two of these NGOs later came together to form what they now refer to as TPO DRC.
As an organization we are profoundly proud to have worked with Richard to respond to some of the most pressing needs of children in armed conflict and to strengthen civil-military relations for the safety and protection of children.
Indeed our reputation in child protection in emergencies is attributed to Richards work in Somalia and DRC. Along with Edward and Rose who worked alongside him in these areas.
We appreciate Richard for his dedication to service and commitment to the needs of the most vulnerable children.
May his soul rest in eternal peace
Patrick Onyango Mangen

  1. Thank you Patrick for appreciating the good work that my uncle, my brother and friend did in his short life. Rest In Eternal Peace, my lapwony.
